Arthritis Care Support Group

A new group offering support to people with Arthritis is now open. On Thursday 7th of July 2011 the group was officially opened by the Lord Mayor of Wakefield Councillor Ros Lund.
Based at Hall Green Community centre on Painthorpe Lane, the group offers support for those with Arthritis and their families or carers.

The idea came about when Cynthia Binns and Carol Roebuck met on an Arthritis care course delivered by Arthritis care North England.

It was suggested that   as well as the one support group in Outwood, Wakefield another group would be useful.
A venue was located close to where Cynthia and Carol lived on the opposite side of Wakefield to the original group.

The group has grown over the months it has been operating and is being recognised by Health Professionals and Social work teams.

The group meets once a month on the first Thursday of the month. It provides a social meeting place for people with Arthritis to get together.
It hopes to provide much more in the future such as speakers on various topics related to the condition.

Events and trips out. It will be a place where people can meet and enjoy the company of others. Have a cup of tea and a chat, in a friendly atmosphere.

In the future we also would like to offer a self-management management programme.
Self-management programmes educate sufferers in using exercise, healthy eating and relaxation to reduce strain and make their condition more bearable
